What's New

The Philadelphia Chapter has a long history and a bright future!

It is the dedication and enthusiasm of active Penn Staters that has helped the Chapter have an impact in Philadelphia. Dating back to 1924, the Chapter has maintained a high level of commitment to carry out the mission of the Penn State Alumni Association:

To connect alumni to the University and to each other, to provide valued services to members, and to support the University’s mission of teaching, research, and service.

The end of World War II proved to be the catalyst to add women and young alumni to the Chapter’s membership directory. Since that time, the Chapter strives to accomplish its own mission, visions, and goals of:

“Uniting and maintaining a network of Penn State alumni, while giving back to the community, providing scholarship, demonstrating pride, and promoting Penn State in the Philadelphia area.”

This mission has been carried out in most recent years by increasing membership and engaging in spirit activities such as football watch parties. Community service projects have included volunteering with Philadbundance and MLK Day of Service, as well as the creation of the Liberty Ball, A Knight for the Kids, which raises money and awareness for Penn State Dance Marathon. Student outreach occurs through the annual Student Send Off, held to welcome the newest members of the Penn State family each fall before they attend their first classes. Professional Development initiatives have included financial planning seminars and business card exchanges.
