President’s Message
Hello fellow Penn Stater:
My name is Shane White, your 2023-2025 President! As some of you may know, I am no stranger to PSAA Philadelphia. My involvement began in 2016 as a student volunteer for Liberty Ball events. Since graduating from Penn State in 2018, I have served on the Liberty Ball Committee in multiple leadership positions and attended Chapter events. I then served as President for 2021-2023, then reelected for the 2023-2025 term.
Below are the six objectives I ran on for the 2023-2025 term:
1. Increase Alumni Engagement
Connect alumni to PSU through events that promote the University and that unite us in our pride for Old State.
Partner with University Offices and Colleges to host events in Philadelphia that bring alumni together.
Expand our Football game watch locations and host game watches for other sports (when possible).
Host events that alumni want.
Survey our alumni base on current and future programming.
2. WE ARE One:
Continue collaboration with the surrounding chapters and societies – leveraging resources, ideas, and partnering on programming.
Maintain the Greater Philadelphia Roundtable – consisting of the surrounding Chapters, Societies and AIGs.
3. EVERYONE is Welcome at PSAA Philadelphia (DE&I):
I can be my authentic self, at all PSAA Philadelphia events and as a volunteer of PSAA Philadelphia.
Supporting our local AIGs in their mission by attending events and sharing them with our network.
Access to events: Ensure events are accessible, financially and transportation.
4. Make an Impact within our Community:
Hold a quarterly volunteer opportunity, geographically dispersed within Philadelphia throughout the year.
When something impacts our community, respond by raising funds/awareness/ or a call to action to volunteer.
5. Fundraise for a Greater Good:
PSAA Philadelphia Scholarship:
Award three scholarships annually to Penn State students residing in Philadelphia.
Receive at least 10 scholarship applications.
Innovate a new annual scholarship fundraiser.
Liberty Ball:
Raise $60K for Four Diamonds during the 23-24 LB fundraising year.
6. Support the Future Generations of Penn State:
Partner with career development offices at University Park, Abington, and Brandywine to mentor students.
Support these offices and campuses any way we can.
Chapter/LB intern opportunity to help us with marketing/fundraising efforts.
If you have any suggestions or questions regarding these priorities, I’d love to hear them! Please feel free to contact me at president@pennstatephilly.org.
I cannot fully express how honored and excited I am to (once again) serve PSAA Philadelphia and the over 17,000 Penn Staters who call Philadelphia home. I hope to meet you at an event soon. We Are!
For the Glory,
Shane White '18
